1. FOBL buys the latest popular books for its members to read, and reserve, raising the money from member’s donations and monthly Book Sales.
2. Members have the exclusive right to read all our books for at least 6 months, and thereafter until all book reservations have been satisfied.
3. Members may borrow two FOBL books at a time, and reserve another from the FOBL Library.
4. After a minimum period of 6 months, and after all FOBL members’ reservations have been satisfied, the books are donated to the Bryanston Library.
5. You may reserve any book in the FOBL Library at the library, or on-line via the FOBL web site. This is a free service to current FOBL members, (currently R 16 for each non FOBL library book). The library will telephone or email you when the book is ready for collection.
6. One donation gives you membership of FOBL for a year. The amount of a donation is not set as members’ circumstances differ. You decide on our worthiness and your circumstances. However to be viable we aim to achieve an average annual donation that covers the price of a book. At the moment the average donation is R300. For your convenience you can make a direct deposit into our bank account, or make your donation at the monthly FOBL book sale. Committee members will be happy to assist and explain any procedures that are not clear.
7. Spouses and partners may join as joint members, combining two or more members of a family. Although not mandatory we suggest that a somewhat larger donation is warranted when two or more members join as a family. Each member of the family will have equal and separate rights as FOBL members.
8. We encourage members to request book titles they want to read, either by entering their requests in a book at the library, or using the Book Request page on our web site. Your suggestions should be for books of general interest to members. The FOBL Book Selection Committee has the final say on the books we buy.
9. Every month we will email you a list of new books placed on the FOBL shelf, and a complete list of books in the FOBL Library for you to read and reserve. The lists are also displayed on the FOBL notice board in the library, and on our website where you can reserve the book of your choice in the comfort of your home, and at NO COST to you.
